SOFA Open House

Today was just wonderful! I went to SoFA's Open House today and I've had a blast! Finally I've seen what my dream school looks like! Hehe... Yah. I'm going to take Fashion Design in college. I've been thinking about this for three years now (since 1st yr) and I finally decided that that's really it. Now what's left for me is to persuade my dad. It's a little bit hard but I'll manage. After all, it's for my future. Anyways, SoFA's facilities were cool. I got to see their design studio and started craving for their sewing machines. And guess what, I saw Amina Aranaz (owner of ARANAZ bags) and Danilo Franco (just the best fashion illustrator in the country!) in SoFA! How cool is that? Really wow! When Amina entered the room, all eyes were on her. And the people who really knows her were all giddy. There was this one guy who I thought were really going to stand up and walk up to her to shake her hands. haha he was so funny! Back to the topic. *ahem. Sorry. My words were all messed up so let me organize it for you.
First, they talked about the school. Well, School of Fashion and the Arts is The Phil's first specialized fashion college offering a full range of extensive and short programs in design, merchandising and business. Phil. Rep of Europe's leading design school, Istituto Marangoni Partner of Project Runway Philippines 1 & 2.  Last night I researched Instituto Marangoni and I found out that it's #7 among the top fashion school in the whole world! hehe just a little boost...
Ok. They also talked about how their curriculum works. Amina gave a brief explanation on some of the lessons they teach. My favorite was the one about Fashion Illustration. She said that you don't need to be an expert in drawing in order to become a fashion designer 'cuz when you enroll there, they're going to teach you the basics all the way to the difficult parts. She also mentioned a SoFA student interning w/ her whom she asked to design an embroidery design for one of her bags. Then this girl told her that she were laughing at her mom when she showed her the design Amina chose because she used to be bad at drawing but after studying in SoFA  she got the hang of it and even got to design a embroidery design for Amina's bag. Ok. Then after that, we had an open forum. I was reluctant to asked questions because aside from the fact that my mom and I arrived late, we were seated in front beside the speaker's table. Good thing some of the people asked the questions that I wanted to asked so everything was covered. After that, they gave away the list of the rates and some fliers. Then we proceeded to the tour. That's how I got to see Danilo Franco! He was overseeing a couple of students who were working on their projects. Watching them was inspirational! I imagined myself in the future in their place stitching away and it was so nostalgic (is it the right word?). I really can't wait to become a SoFA student!

If you want to get to know SoFA a bit more then check out their website at www.sofamanila.com. They also have a facebook account and page: http://www.facebook.com/SoFAcollege (page) http://www.facebook.com/sofa.manila (account)

P.S. I took pictures but somehow I couldn't find them. I'll look again and post them here next time.

Love lots!
